Meade County offers plenty of great attractions, to include entertainment, scenery and culture. From Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area’s walking trails, repelling and scenic views of the Ohio River, to eclectic restaurants and quaint bed and breakfasts, from hiking a woodland train to a bluegrass concert at Riverfront Park, from a morning of antique shopping to an afternoon on a perfectly groomed golf course, from an old fashioned country fair to a classic car show. It’s music, arts, the outdoors and more. There are also plenty of “signature” events for the young and old. Here’s just a sample:

Threshing Days
This two day event held the second week of July at the Meade County Fairgrounds celebrates the history and culture of farming. See displays of steam and gas engines, antique tractors and more. Enjoy wheat binding, threshing and straw bailing demonstrations that highlight the “modern conveniences” of the early 1900’s. It’s good fun for the entire family, and NOT to be missed!
Civil War Days
Each July, experience a reenactment of John Hunt Morgan’s raid on Brandenbug.
- July 1863 the general came through Meade County on his way to Corydon Indiana
- He and 2,550 Calvary crossed the Ohio in BB
- CSA army commandeered 2 steam boasts to move troops across, of which one burned after crossing
- The general stayed at the Buckner House located on Hwy 228 overlooking the Ohio.
- A reenactment skirmish is held yearly at the River Front Park in BB
- The skirmish is held close to the actual date in early July

Meade County Fair
Usually held the last week of July at the Fairgrounds, and one of the premiere County Fairs in Kentucky, the Meade County Fair offers a plethora of great events, a large midway, plenty of games and rides for the kids, and lots of great food. More than 60 activities, and as many as 35,000 visitors make this a “must see” activity for any visitor!

- Horse Shows, remote control truck and tractor pulls, real big tractor pulls

Matt Pike Memorial Truck & Tractor Pull
Held each July at the Meade County Fairgrounds, the Pull offers a spectacular evening of music, food and plenty of noise. Pulls involve five classes of vehicles, to include:
- Light limited super stock tractors.
- Pro farm tractors.
- Pro stock four-wheel- drive trucks.
- Super-modified two-wheel-drive trucks.
- Light-weight super stock tractors.
Ekron Community Picnic
Held the first Saturday after Memorial Day each September, and presented by the Ekron Volunteer Fire Department and the community of Ekron, the annual community picnic festivities include an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, booths, a picnic meal and more
Blessing of the Animals
First Saturday of October, each year, pets and their owners gather on the lawn of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Brandenburg for a Blessing of the Animals. The Blessing is held in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment.
St. Theresa Old Fashion Down Home Church Picnic and Auction
Booths and games, a delicious fried chicken, beef and barbecued pork, and an auction make for an old fashioned day of fun for the entire family. Held in Rhodelia the second weekend of August each year.
St Theresa Community Fall Festival
Held in Rhodelia the last Sunday in October each year, the Fall Festival features autumn activities and a delicious turkey dinner.
Highway 60 Yard Sale
One of Kentucky’s most unusual events comes to Meade County each year when the annual Highway 60 Yard Sale opens for business. Early each Fall, the eight counties along the highway team up to present the sale, which will stretches nearly 200 miles from Muldraugh in the east to Smithland in the west. There are plenty of bargains for everyone, as well as people to meet and things to see.
Field of Screams
Get ready for the scare of your life at Kentuckiana’s largest haunted corn field. From mid-September through Halloween, the Field of Screams offers a fright fest for kids of all ages. Just off KY 1638, and close to Fort Knox, this is an event for the entire family. And don’t miss the unBOOlievable “Hayride to Hell”.
Nightmare Forest
Every weekend in October, at the Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area, Nightmare Forest offers three great attractions. Take a walk on the original Nightmare Forest trail, where a horror movie comes to life. A second haunted trail called the Trail of Terror is filled with unimaginable horrors from your worst nightmares. And new in 2011 is the Nightmare Forest Drive-In where you can watch scary movies.
River Heritage Music Festival
Held on the first Saturday in October in Riverfront Park,, the Meade County Museum & Arts Council stages the River Heritage Music Festival. This day of music, food, craft vendors and 5k run, features several bands and a great time for the entire family.
Homemakers of Meade County Annual Bizarre
Country traditions endure at the Meade County Homemaker’s Bazaar, with local crafters and Homemaker Clubs selling their products during the second weekend of November. Pot holders, food, craft items, candles and other whimsical items are available at this fun-filled, family friendly event.
Christmas by the River
Held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving Day each year, it’s a fun for all Christmas experience to kick off your Holiday Season in an unforgettable way. Craft booths and food vendors are set up at the Meade County Farm Bureau Building located at the Meade County Fair Grounds. Located at the Brandenburg Riverfront Park, the festival concludes with the drive-thru Christmas light displays lit up by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
- Thousands of light bulbs light up the River Front Park while Christmas music plays in the air
- Opening Day festivities include a craft fair, entertainment at the gazebo

Jingle Bell Trot
Run, jog, walk or trot from the Brandenburg United Methodist Church down to the Christmas by the River lights and back to the church. Bring the whole family, maybe get a free t-shirt and, for sure, enjoy a carefree evening of Holiday fun. Held each December, this local event is a seasonal must for many Meade County residents and guests.
