Wolf Creek
Wolf Creek got its name late in the 1700s. The Ohio river becomes narrow near the mouth of Wolf Creek and a buffalo trail led to this point and continued on through Indiana. In early spring, a wolf pack would gather here to prey upon the buffalo calves as the herd moved across the river; therefore, Wolf Creek was named by early settlers.
At one time there were warehouses, a hotel, several stores, two churches, a post office and a school. Today only one church remains. There is also a fire department here, as well as a boat ramp with access to the Ohio River. It is the home of one of Meade County's largest employers, Riverside Stone, a limestone quarry along the Ohio.
